What Is Futuristic Lawyer?
Everything you need to know about Futuristic Lawyer and why you should consider a subscription.
There is plenty of stuff going on that I could cover this week.
However, with the steady influx of new subscribers to Futuristic Lawyer, I thought it was more important and about time to put a few words on what Futuristic Lawyer IS. Some of you may be wondering why I fill up your inbox with weekly emails and occasional podcasts.
First of all, I want to thank my small but growing group of paying subscribers and free subscribers who consistently like and share my posts. You know who you are and I am very appreciative of your support! If it weren't for you, I certainly wouldn’t be writing these words on my keyboard.
I have been posting regularly on this domain for more than 4.5 years and on Substack for about 2.5 years. Time flies. I started this blog-turned-newsletter during Covid when I had some vacant time and was struggling to find work. Thankfully, I have stuck with this project throughout the years, even during periods when the inspiration and motivation to write were downhill. Over time, I’ve attained a much better perspective and understanding of what I want to accomplish. Even though I have less time on my hands now, I continue to put in the time and effort, simply because I enjoy the writing process too much to quit.

Technologists often claim that AI will cause an intelligence explosion in the future. I think the intelligence explosion has already happened. Right now, we are in the process of refining it and further shaping it with AI.
Generative AI has had a positive impact on productivity and time-savings in many jobs, and it can often help with boring, repetitive, and unpleasant tasks. Its impact on the way we live has been fairly small. Up until now, AI has been contingent upon, and its capabilities limited by, data on the internet. Whilst BigTech companies are racing each other to develop evermore powerful AI, we tend to overlook the most revolutionary technology of our lifetimes.
The internet has been life-altering for billions of people and changed how most societies and communities work, practically overnight. The digital nomad lifestyle presents a unique opportunity that wasn’t available in any shape or form for generations in the past. No matter what background we have, which country we are from, or what our interests are, there is the potential to reach a gargantuan-sized audience if we dare to take the necessary steps and excel at what we do. The internet presents a huge opportunity for both me and for you.
At the same time, finding out how to leverage information technology on a collective level is a major challenge. Misinformation, algorithmic bias, addiction to devices, surveillance, and tech cartel formation are serious problems that will take more than a few board meetings at BigTech companies to solve. It will likely be defining challenges for generations to come. These are key areas that I write about on Futuristic Lawyer from a perspective of law and ethics.
What I would like from you - who have read thus far and haven’t yet done so - is to consider sponsoring my work with a paid subscription of $6/month or $60/year (25% discount on group subscriptions).
Your subscription will directly contribute to the longevity and continuous development of Futuristic Lawyer. In return for your subscription, which corresponds to the price of a mid-sized latte in a Danish coffee shop per month, I strive to give you top-level consultancy on the intersection of tech, law, and ethics. I depend on your support to fulfill this goal and commitment.
As a paid subscriber you will have access to my entire backlog of essays, analysis, book -, paper, and case summaries, deep dives, opinion pieces, and future posts which I steadily release every Tuesday at 6:30 Central European Standard Time. Occasionally, I do podcast episodes and interviews as well, and you can expect to receive an e-book some time in 2025.
If you are currently a free subscriber and my sales pitch here has awoken your interest, you can take on a paid subscription with a few clicks below. I hope it will pay you dividends over time.
If you don’t feel like taking a paid subscription right now for whatever reason, that is completely fine too. I hope that a free subscription to Futuristic Lawyer can provide you with valuable insights. If it does, don’t hesitate to like, comment, and share, that is the currency of algorithms.
Finally, I want to thank you for your time and attention. I don’t take either for granted and contrary to social media algorithms, I do my best to honor it. If you have comments, suggestions, even regrets about your subscription, or anything else, you can reach me on email, Substack, or LinkedIn.
On the whole I find European thinkers on technology have a more balanced perspective and are less prone to exaggeration than Americans. The over promising factor of AI's capabilities for commercial incentives really leaves a bad sour taste in my mouth. It also means American Media is full of misinformation about the level we have reached.
It's actually difficult to find articles sometimes of a more balanced nature that doesn't feel like PR or clickbait. Thanks for having a more rational approach to all of this.
